How much does a photo shrink?
A 4-6 MB phone photo usually compresses to 500-900 KB at quality 80 with no visible difference. The target size mode picks the quality so the file fits the kilobytes you set.
How do I compress a photo to 200 KB?
Choose the Target size mode and enter 200 KB. If the photo is very large, also limit the long side to 1500 pixels.
Does PNG get compressed too?
Yes. PNG is compressed losslessly through optimisation, and if you allow conversion to JPG or WebP the gain is 3-10 times.
Where does my photo go?
Nowhere. The image is processed right in the browser and is not uploaded to a server: nobody sees or stores it. You can go offline after the page has loaded.
