- What is HEIC and why does the photo not open?
- HEIC is the photo format on iPhone since 2017. It takes half the space of JPG, but Windows and many websites do not understand it. After conversion to JPG the photo opens everywhere.
- Is quality lost?
- Not visibly. At quality 90 there is no visible difference; the file comes out 1.5-2 times larger than the original HEIC, which is normal.
- How do I stop the iPhone from saving HEIC?
- Settings, Camera, Formats, choose Most Compatible. New photos will be JPG right away.
- Where does my photo go?
- Nowhere. The image is processed right in the browser and is not uploaded to a server: nobody sees or stores it. You can go offline after the page has loaded.
