- What exactly does enhancement do?
- It is not simple stretching. The neural network is trained on damaged pictures: it removes JPEG blockiness, noise, blur and pixel staircases, and fills in missing detail the way it would look on a sharp photo. You can keep the original size or upscale.
- Why is the first run slow?
- A model of about 5 MB is downloaded once and cached in the browser. After that processing happens on your device: 5-20 seconds per photo on a laptop, longer on a phone. The Maximum mode uses a 65 MB model with better detail and is meant for computers with a GPU.
- Are faces restored too?
- Yes, general restoration improves faces as well. A dedicated face model for old portraits weighs 350 MB and does not fit in a browser; it will come next as a server feature.
- Where does my photo go?
- Nowhere. The neural network runs right in the browser; the file is not uploaded to a server, nobody sees or stores it.
